[by TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ELECTRIC POWER LOAN. AUCKLAND,' Sent. 17. A debenture loan of two hundred and forty thousand pounds, at 5} per cent is to be raised by the Bank of New Zealand for the Auckland Electric Power Board. The Bank lias agreed to endeavour to place the loan in New Zealand at par, putting debentures on the market, either now, or on a date to he fixed by the Board. The Bank undertakes to take up the unsold portion at March 81st, at 97 net. in Auckland, provided the principal and interest will he made payable at Melbourne, with an option to the holder of change of domicile to New Zealand. The commission is to he one per cent on ihe whole £240,000. The Bank expresses the view that it is probable the rates in Australia will advance.

After over lit years of participation in cricket and the management of it, Mr E. Wilding, K.C., lias dropped out. His resignation from the position of President of. the Canterbury Cricket Association was received with regret at the Association’s annual meeting, and he was" elected the .first life member of the Association. COUNCIL OF WOMEN. AUCKLAND. Sept. 17. The annual Conference of the National Council of Women decided to urge equal citizenships for men and women; the appointment of trained women patrols. and of women justices cf tho peace, and also women jurors when women, children, or girls are concerned as witnesses or accused; that the Upper House he elective; that women ho appointed to the Prisons Board. A GIRL BURGLAR.

A series of mysterious burglaries, extending over two years and which has exercised tho minds of the police, resulted in the arrest last evening < f Marion d. Lewis, aged 22 years and residing at Kilbirnie. Detectives searched the house where the girt lived and found a <|iiantiiy of stolen goods. They also recovered some at a house at Island Bay. Four charges were preferred against Lewis. The first related to Sept. Uth, 1921, when a residence was entered at Kilbirnie and booty, including £BO worth of jewellery and silverware was stolen. Other charges included the entry of houses during owners’ absence on honeymoon and removal of wedding presents. The latest burglaries in which Lewis is alleged to lie concerned took place at the end of hist month when over .£BO worth of silverware and clothing were taken from Kilbirnie residence. The girl was formally charged with breaking and entering aller arrest lasi evening and was remanded till Ibis morning on hail. The detectives found a large proportion of Ihe stolen goods under the girl's bed. WAR PENSIONS BOARD. WELLINGTON, Sept. Is Cabinet yesterday approved of the appointment of Sir Frederick Chapman as Chairman of the War Pensions Board. The Minister, Sir Heaton Rhodes states it is hoped that the Board will be set up at an early date and lie ready to hear appeals.

At tile annuel meeting ot the Cricket Association, the financial position was reported as excellent. \ arioiis proposals were made in the direction of relegating the lowest dob in the senior grade and promoting the best junior cliih to senior, hut none were carried. The committee was requested to formulate a scheme for discussion at the end of the coming season. The recommeiidatiuii to secure the services of a capable coach tor Melliugiou was generally endorsed.

A man-hunt of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua kept the police lius.v yesterday. Iwo voting American soldiers stowed away when the ship was at Colon, but were found after the Rotorua cleared the Banaina Coast, and brought Indore Captain Hunter, who decided to hand them over to the police on arrival at Wellington. When the ship reached port yesterday morning the men had disappeared, and a most industrious search proved unavailing. 'I he police continued the hunt . after the ship berthed at the King’s wharf, and a constable mounted guard over the ■Gangway, but no sign ol the missing meiT could he got.
