The “ Daily Telegraph’s ” correspondent states that nothing further has l>een received at the Quai d’Orsay regarding Germany’s new offer. Tt is not known whether conversations between Chancellor Strosoman and M. Demargerie will he continued. The opinion, however, appears pronounced that negotiations will begin shortly.
The French Government is receiving reports daily showing the passive resistance is dying.
The “ Daily Telegraph ” Berlin correspondent reports that for the first time in three years, the unemployment throughout Germany is becoming really serious. Between three and four thousand factories are closed in Saxony, and enormous numbers of employees are under notice all over the Reich. It is estimated that by the end of this month, the number of unemployed will have risen to two millions. A Dusseldorf message states the French report a great improvement towards the occupation authorities. The food situation there steadily improves, and there is no news of any serious shortage in any Ruhr towns, though the prices arc everywhere terribly high. The “Central News Agency’ ” Berlin corespondent reports serious conditions prevail in Bent-hen, where foj*’ riots continue. The ranks of the demonstrators are increasing, and looting is prevalent. The police have been reinforced, and many persons arrested.
