SOME SIGNIFIT'ANT STGXS

THE PARTIES PREPARING. WEDLIXGTOX, Sept. T2. Is a general election coming next years Y ft is suggested by the member for Auckland East that this is a contingency for which the Government is preparing. His opinion is reinforced by several signs in other quarters. The chief Reform organiser. Mr Lisle, recently resigned, and his position is being promptly filled, the “Wairarepa Age” reporting that Mr David llehenton. a well-known organiser associated with the Farmers’ Union. will take the position vacated by Mi' Lisle. The new organiser has had experience as a newspaper correspondent, and has resided twelve years in the Wairrapa. That the Liberals anticipate some sudden call to tho electorates is shewn by the decision of tho party towards tiie end of the recent session to com-mence-early in the new year what they termed an intensive campaign among the electorates. Mr \\ ilford, the Liberal Leader, will return from his Eastern trip in ample time to take part in this general platform activity. Official l.alumr is also planning for the possibilities of an election next year. National subscriptions are being secured for the organisation of a general information bureau on economic and political subjects, so that Labour candidates and sympathisers will he well provided with platform material. “ Another indication of the trend of events is that the Electoral Office staff in Wellington is being well maintained, so that if there is a dissolution of Parliament its plans will be in good order. Opposition memliers. towards the end of the recent session, held the opinion that the Prime Minister was inclined to watch bis opportunity for another appeal to the country, and that if his difficult position in the House became still more awkward next session he may seek a dissolution as a way out.
