The Public Trustee has a notice in this issue in regaid to the estate of tile late Thomas floury Ingram, of Hokitika, bairdiesser.
The Araliura Daily Factory Cov. Ltd., notify that operations will he resumed on Wednesday next, 19th Sept. The factory having completed necessary alterations is able to economically handle a larger supply of cream.
At the Licensing Bench to-day, it was intimated that at the annual meeting hold in June last several solicitors for licensees stood up oil behalf of their clients and promised that the imp.tovements asked ior would ho tarried out. The police reports showed that the mast of the improvements asked for had not been carried out ; in fact, in many instances, being ignored, and so dishonouring their solicitor's wol-d. The Chairman mimed several licensees who had tailed in this respect. and said that in future no notice would ho taken of solicitors’ promises on licensees' I ehnlf.
It was given out at the meeting of the Licensing Bench this morning that instruction would be given the police to take an inventory of the hotel accommodation available of all the licensed houses in Greymouth and Hokitika. and the equipment of same as to rooms, beds and bedding, both double Olftl single; also that a hook be kept ill each house showing the accoinmodaiiun available at short notice, the hook to he available to the police or any member of tlie Licensing Committee when asked for. The police report to be ready on October 24th . when the committee will meet again at the CourtI'.duiy'. Greymouth, on Wednesday, Oct. 24th.
The death occurred at Christchurch yesterday of Mr Joseph O’Brien. formerly a well-known resident of Hokitika, who resided in !• itzherhert St. He was one of the pioneer hand to the Coast, and was engaged for many years boating on the Hokitika ii\ei. ••O’Brien's Handing'’ was at the foot of Fitzherbcrt street, whence regular excursions were made to Hake Maliinapna. Mr and Mrs O’Brien retired some years ago and went to live in Christchurch. There was a numerous family, the sons and daughters all doing well. Mr O'Brien’s brother. Dan, predeceased him here some years ago. Since residing in Christchurch, the exCoastor was to he seen frequently m Cathedral Square, where so many Coasters foregather for the purpose of meeting old friends and acquaintances. Much sympathy will ho felt for Mrs O’Brien and the members of her family in their bereavement. (For continuation of news we fourth " page.)
