Ihe origin of the fire is a mystery. When noticed, the building was well ablaze, and quickly consumed, nothing being saved. The building was erected in 1885. ARBITRATION COURT. WELLINGTON. Sept. 11. At the Arbitration Court, the widow of Walter Pearson claimed £052 sterling damages from the New Zealand Shipping Cov.. on account of the death of her husband, a waterside worker, who it was alleged was injured by a sling of timber on one of the defendant's steamers. Tile (mints in dispute was whether the accident really set up the condition of health which eventually caused death. Decision, was reserved. SUPREME COURT. HAMILTON. Sept. 11. At the Supreme Court. Anthony Francis Smith was suteiiced to two years on a charge of criminal assault on his daughter, the Judge remarking that it as an abominable offence. Matthews Gardner was acquitted on a charge of carnally knowing a girl itlteen years of age. LIMITED FINANCES. HAMILTON. Sept. 11. The Minister of Education visited the district and inspected the schools.
