Sept. 10 In view ol Rapine's win in the Chelmsford stakes his forthcoming meeting with David in the Spring Stakes is the subject of much speculation by press critics. The "Telegraph” says ninety-nine per cent thought the race was over when David passed Wish Wynne at the distance. Rapine was in front, of only three horses half a mile from the post, hut then commenced to run with remarkable brilliancy. It was a magnificent linisli, the New Zealander lasting longer. Whilst the performance created the impression that Rapine has proved superior to David, at all distances it must he remembered that David is likely to improve during the next lew weeks. Also much more use was made of him during tile early stages of the race. The "Herald” says the crowded stands were cheering the public idol to victory, when the black and white livery flashed into view. Before the spectators had grasped the portent of the challenge. Rapine had avenged his previous week’s defeat by winning on the post. It was a sterling performance, ridden with fine judgment.
