WELLINGTON, Sept. 8 The Government Statistician’s return shows that the population of New Zealand has slightly increased during the June quarter when it stood at 1,32(>,(ifi4 as compared with 1.325.301 at the eml of -March and 1,1(18,881 at the end of last year. These figures exclude Cook Islands 13,375 and Western Samoa 38,100. The Samoan population shows a decline during the June quarter.

IMMIGRATION PLANS. WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. A party comprising the following members ol the Imperial Overseas Immigration Committee is due to arrive in Auckland by the Niagara on Monday, Sir William Windham; Mr J. AYignall, M.P.. ; Major-General Waurhop and .Miss O. Putt. The delegation are coining to New Zealand at the invitation of the Government. They will tour the Dominion for the purpose ol seeing what field this country offers for the Imperial immigrants, and what class of these can he most readily .absorbed. Mr 11. D. Thompson (Undersecretary of the New Zealand Immigration Department). Mr •). Hislop (Under Secretary of Internal Affairs) arc leaving Wcllingto nto-dav for the purpose of meeting the visiting delegates, who are coining straight to Wellington, arriving on Tuesday afternoon next. Here the delegates will meet Lord Jellicop and the members of the Government before undertaking their tour.
