[by TEIiEGUAPH—PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NFAY ZEALANDER MISSING. PALMERSTON NORTH, Sept. 5. Mr P. E. Thomas, of Palmerston North, informed a- reporter to-night that he had been unable to get into touch with his brother, Mr H. N. Thomas-, drafting engineer of the Rising Sun Petroleum Company, Yokohama. .Mr Thomas is an old. pupil of tiie Palmerston High School. He is 32 years of ago, and has for some years been in Japan. The oilfields on which ho was employed are on the outskirts of Yokohama, ancl there tore right in the heart of tho disastrous disturbance. If Mr Thomas had been in his room at his hotel ho would have laid only a most slender chance of escape. On the other hand, if he were on duty at the oil fields, his chances would have been hardly any better, for the wells would most certainly suffer from the outbreak of fire or the inroads of the tidal wave. It is hoped his promising career will not have 'boon cut short, hut relatives are not- sanguine concerning his chances of escape.
QUINN AT SALMON. WELLINGTON, September 5. In a report to th e Minister of Marino, Air L. F. Arson, C-liief Inspector of Fisheries, reports mat quinnat salmon have made their way across Cook Strait. To-day a spent fish wn.s found in the Palioa River, South Wairarapa. Air Avson says the fact that a spent fish has been found shows that a number spawned there lastseason. Air Ayson expects to hear soon of quinnat salmon running into the Riinmalinnga and tributorv rivers in the Wairarapa and into the Hutt River..
