British and Intercolonial Exhibition.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY, SEPT. 3rd. The Council met at 7.40 p.m. Present: Messrs W. Jeffries (Chairman), W. J. Butler (President), R. Wild, R. F Perham, A. Aitken, G. Davidson, W. Wilson, Hon H. L. Michel, Dr Teichelmann and Mr D. J. Evans. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and outward correspondence approved. REPORTS. SPACE COMMITTEE. The Space Committee (Mr R. Wild, Chairman), reported that space had been definitely allotted in respect to applications approved ns follows: Dunedin 465 scpiare feet. Christchurch 1218 square feet. Auckland 820 square feet. la addition to this there is some 2,000 square feet reserved for applicants to ho adjusted as soon as completed applications are received. It was recommended that a local committee he set up without delay to organise a Westland Court, and Messrs I’. Ronton. E. Bowden, H. Haile, J. Bain were appointed convenors of a meeting to organise a local committee to a range for a special display at the main entrance to the Exhibition. ACCOMMODATION COMMITTEE.

The Accommodation Committee (Mr W. Wilson, chairman), reported having interviewed eleven local drapers with regard to bedding supplies, and it was explained that the suggested schemo with regard to supplies of blankets etc. had lieen approved. It was decided to order 1,000 blankets and to circularise tho drapers in order to form :■ committee to control the distribution.

In connection with accommodation. Mi L. E. Aldridge reported on the partial completion of the town canvass with the result that accommodation would ho provided for upwards of 200 people in private houses, and in addition to this it was ascertained that about 1000 visitors would he staying with friends on whose account accommodation was being reserved hv occupants of private dwellings. This report was considered very satisfactory, and it was resolved on the completion of the canvass, to compile a register of local accommodation as inquiries were received. ADVERTISING C’OMMITTEE.

Air R. Wild (Chairman) reported, recommending the offer of Simpson and Williams Ltd., Christchurch for tho printing of the Exhibition catalogue similar to that at Christchurch at a reasonable royalty.

Tho Committee submitted a draft poster prepared by the Lyttelton Times Company for advertising purposes outside the district , and this with minor amendments was approved, and it was resolved to enquire the cost o( producing quantities of this artistic poster for exhibition on railway stations and elsewhere. It was decided to vote CIO for an advertisement in Brett’s Christmas Annual. It was also resolved to prepare a statement for next meeting of estimated requirements with regard to advertising.

TIMBER PRODUCTS COMMITTEE. .Mr R. F. Perham (Chairman) reported with regard to a meeting held on tho 20th. nit. and notified that ten linns outside the Coast had been communicated wjtli in regard to preparation of special timber exhibits, and also that local firms had been asked to cooperate in preparing special exhibits. CORRESPONDENCE.

From the Secretary Department of Industries, Wellington, notifying that im Ordcr-in-Comieil in respect to the Exhibition declared it to he an Exhibition within the meaning of the “Exhibition Act 1.010” had been prepared. Under the provisions of the Order-in-Connvil any local body may defray out of its ordinary revenue the cost of preparing and exhibiting products and resources of its district.—Received with thanks.

From Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., with respect to thd visit of the Governor to the llxhibtion, ami stating that nearly every member of Parliament bad signified his intention to visit the Exhibition.—Received with thanks and action in extending an invitation "to His Excellency to open the Exhibition was approved. From Mr l\. S. AN i 11i«i ins, yishome, indicating his intention to visit the Exhibition during January when he would telegraph with regard to accommodation.— Received.

From the Sydney Chamber of Commerce acknowledging receipt of Prospectus for the Exhibition, stating same had been brought under the notice of the members interested. —Received. From the Secretary. Wellington Industrial Assoeialion stating firms interested had boon notified of lenders called for printing the official catalogue.—Received. From the same accepting with pleasure the position ol agent lor the F.xlii Hi ton Council in connection with the disposal of space at the Exhibition. — Received. , From (.’ .Tandy. Wellington, further letter supplying particulars of decorations available and of side shows, which he would he prepared to organise.— Received. From Turnbull and Jones, Wellington. offering supplies of electric plant for lighting the Exhibition buildings.— Received and referred to the Lighting Committee for consideration. From T. W. Wood ruffe, Christchurch, with respect to preparation of plans.— Received. It was stated the specifications for requirements of material were expeetd hv the next mail, and the matter was referred to the Secretary tor attention. , From J- J. From the Canterbury Frozen Meat Co , enquiring as to facilities for obtaining ice at Hokitika. Received, reply to lx? forwarded that ice would be procurable locally, ami also that cool storage would be obtainable adjacent to the Exhibition. From Clements Motors Limited, offering to provide transport free of charge for members travelling on Exhibition business. —Received, a letter of appreciation to be sent lor kind offer. From the Bank of New Zealand with reference to accommodation required. —Received and two members of the Council with the Secretary were authorised to sign cheques. On behalf of the Agricultural Committee, Mr Jeffries, Chairman, stated a meeting would be held at Kokataln on Thursday to deal with matters in connection with a distinctive agricultural exhibit for Westland. The meeting concluded at 0.20 p.m.
