ARCTIC DISASTER.

(“Sydney Sun” Cables). (Received this day at 9.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 2. Another terrible tragedy is reported from the Arctic. Stcfausson two summers ago sent an expedition to occupy Wntngel Island. Last year's relief ship failed to reach them on account of ice. This year’s expedition was successful in breasting the harrier and returned home reporting all dead, except an Eskimo woman. The party were starved, and endured awful suitering including scurvy. The dead include Allan Crawford (son of a Professor at Toronto University) the leader of the party, and three companions, Aimin', Knight and Gallo. Stcfausson sent a party to take possession of the island with the intention of making it, a round the world aeroplane station, knight, who was an old-time, ex-

perienced explorer with Stcfausson on other expeditions, became ill last winter. so Crawford. Gallo and Maurer at-

tempted to reach the shore of Siberia, hoping to bring aid. They started over tlio ice and were never seen again and undoubtedly perished of starvation. Knight lived until June of this year, tended by an Eskimo woman, who alone was left when the rescue party arrived last week.
