A report on the success attending the ii-e of tin' insulin treatment for diabetes at tin' hospital v.n- presented to the Hospital Board vesterdnv hv l)r H B. t Avon (acting medical snperinttndem). ‘'.Since the beginning of August." he stated, ‘‘three patients suffering from diabetes audit us have been under treatment- with insulin. Two of these have shown marked improvement. The treatment is by no means simple, and its use apart front strict laboratory control i- fraught with grave danger. On this account t..e treatment will he routined for some time to come to the main centres where there are fully equipped scientific laboratories. For this reason it has been decided to make special arrangements in this hospital; rtul as sufficient supplies of insulin are now available we shall he able to ireat up- to 2-7 patients as from September I next. While our experience with this remedy has so far been very satisfactory, sufferers from the disease should not be misled into thinking that every patient can be cured. Evidence is accumulating that there are a lew who are not even relieved by its application."
Air C. .M. Luke mentioned that although they only had a small quantity of insulin, Dr Wilson bad arranged for a regular supply at Toronto, atnl when that arrived they would he able to take a greater number of patients for treatment.
