His iriends say that he was alive thirty yards from the beach and met his death on the rocks. WEEK-END CABLES. MELBOURNE. Aug. 21. The Postmaster-General has aim,mured a reduction in week-end cables from nincpence to sevenpence half-penny with a minimum of 12s Od. in lien ol 15s to take place on 3rd. Sept. MR BRUCE ENTERTAINED. LABOUR NOT REPRESENTED. (Received this dav at 1.30 p.m.) .MELBOURNE, Aug 21. Mr Bruce was the guest of the members of both Houses at a farewell banquet on the eve of his departure to attend the Imperial Conference. The Labourites in the fulfilment of their threat, absented themselves as a protest against the Government’s action in adjourning Parliament during Mr Bruce’s absence. Mr Bruce in referring to the Imperial Conference said that if it were of benefit to Australia and not to Bt itain, he would not he Australia’s representative. Wo sought nothing for ourselves if it could he gained only at the expense of Britain.
