Rose (Now Zealand) was second, and .1. McKenzie (South Sydney) third. Rage (New Zealand) ran 10th. Time 2i.2i), a record for tlie course. Nalder did not start. Rose led by 40 yards in the first lap, and increased his lead to KX) yards in the second lap. but he was overtaken at half-way. He went to walk off the course, hut changing his mind, he continued. He was beaten by 20 yards. With better judgment and by keeping nearer in, Rase should have won.
