Sir Allan Smith, Chairman of the I Engineering Federation Committee. and Unionist ALP. for Croydon, writing to Mr Baldwin on behalf of the industrial group of Members in Cue House of Commons, points out how the Government can assist industry out ol the present depresion by ensuring that Dominion contracts be placed within the Empire. He mentions the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and suggests that the Government should endeavour to see that the contract shall lie placed in England, arid so relieve unemployment, an ! shall not he given to foreigners Mr Baldwin, in reply, says:— ‘I InGovernment is seized of the real position. The lasting cure lies in a restoration and stability throughout tinworld, and the development of new markets.
