[by TELEGRAPII —FER MESS ASSOCIATION.] THE HOUSE. WELLINGTON, August 13. The House spent the whole afternoon sitting, discussing the report of the Mines Department which was tabled bv Hon. Anderson. At 7.30 p.m. Hon. D. Stewart, Minister ot Customs brought down the Customs Amendment Bill ratifying the alterations made in the tariff by resolution oil 3rd. July, including a duty on sugar and glass bottles. Efforts made j>v tho Opposition and Labour party to defeat the former was successfully resisted by 35 to 2G. The Bill then passed with amendments to the farift moved In- the Minister.
The House rose at 1 .B 0 a.m. till 2.80 p.m.
