The committee might recommend the petition for favourable consideration o, u £ten as if lilted, he said, but Die Government would do nothing. For members to make any impression upon the Government hv their protests was tievond the hounds of possibility. Why, then, protest !' They could not get any further with the petition. the matter was going to stand. Ihe petition could go up a dozen tunes and get no further. The committee which made the recommendation had no power, and even though this was the fourth time that the man had got- a favourable recommendation, the recommendation was of no value, and the public outside ought, to understand I that. , , Other members also commented strongly on tho position. Mr AV. J. Jordan ( Ahumkau, said that he would go on to the public platform and let the people know how Parliament was run by a few, and no attention was paid to the recommendations of Parliamentary Committees, however strongly they were supported by the House.
