LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. MOTION OF SYMPATHY. WELLINGTON, Aug. 0. The Legislative Council sat at 2.30 p.TII. Sir P. 11. D. Roll moved a motion of regret at tho death of President Harding and sympathy with the citizens of America and the relatives of deceased. The motion was seconded hv Sir Win. Hall Jones who said that with the passing of President llarding Britain lost a good friend. Sir Thomas Mackenzie supported the motion, saying that he hoped the future would bring a closer union of the English speaking races; for with them lav tho pence of the world. Tho motion was agreed to. The Wanganui Harbour Board District Amendment Ell. the War Pensions Amendment Bill, the Auckland University College Amendment Bill and the Fisheries Amendment Bill were received from the House of Representatives and road a first time. Thh .Savings Bank Amendment Bill was read a second time, pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Cook Islands Amendment Bill and the Immigration Restriction Amendment Bill was read a second time. The Council rose at 2.34 p.m

THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The House was engaged during the whole of its sitting with the debate on the second reading of tho Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Amendment Bill which was read a second time, on the voices and at 3.15 a.m. the House rose until 2.30 p.m.
