It was decided that Mr .lelfries communicate at once with Mr Hayward of Dunedin, ex-President of the Manufacturers Association, with regard in the arrangemcnls for disposing of space in Otago and Southland. Dawson, Napier, applying for space for games and suggesting’ that the Committee should consider giving members of the New Zealand Showman's Association first preference in the disposal of space.— Received and favourably considered, and to ask for copy of Show Rules. GENERAL MATTERS. Mr Wild reported with regard to the meeting of (.lie Guarantors and the fact that the suh-Committee had been successful in increasing the amount to about C.’i, BOO.—Received as satisfactory. Mr Wild also stated that, the suggested resignation of the President
bad been deferred for the 'Council meeting. The meeting unanimously resolved to requosi Air Butler to continue as President. Air Butler said lie would lie very pleased io do so if the members of the Council would agree to him taking a less active part in the pro- < codings than he felt be ought to take, but owing to the pressure of his own business affairs, be found it very awkward at times to do justice to both positions. It was decided to concur in Mr Butler’s wishes, and his position as President was confirmed with general approval, and it was resolved to appoint Mr Jeffries as Chairman of the Council in order to assist Air Butler with the Executive work. This course was unanimously supported by all the members present. COMMITTEES. The Council resolved to revise the list of sub-committees and to appoint as Chairman of each committee a member of the Executive Council in order that there would In’ a direct link between the sub-committees and the ■Council itself, each committee to bare power to miu to its number. Air Butler reported with regard lo his recent visit north stating ho luid conferred with the Secretary of tin Industries and Commerce Department, at Wellington, and had discussed matters with the President of the Weliington Industrial Association, the members of which would be co-operat-ing in the Exhibition. The President .submitted particulars or various details in regard to supplies, railway freights, advertising oil railway stations etc. Air L. J. Schmidt, the Government representative in Christchurch would be visiting the district in about a fortnight’s time, and would confer with the Council as a whole in regard to the general details for the Exhibition. Air Woodrofl’e submitted •the draft building plans which Air Butler thought quite satisfactory, and it was expected that the completed plans would be ready within a fort night. An •oi naineiital front of an effective design was being prepared. The report was received and adopted. It was resolved to call for tenders for the supply of timber as soon as the particulars of the building plans were to hand. The meeting favored carrying out the building by day labor. Mr Butler reported wilh regard to an interview with a, representative ol .Unit Limited, v.ilh regard to advertising and it w-as resolved to defer same for later consideration.
Air A. B- King was appointed Auditor for the Exhibition fund at a foe of £d -A- the guarantors to be asked to approve of the appointment- at- the first opportunity.
Jj, wa> resolved to make a. further enquiry in respect to the private accommodation available fin the town for public information. li, was resolved that the Exhibition Council meet- on the second and fourth Mondays of each mouth, with special meetings as may he required. The meeting concluded at 10 o’clock.
