Eireann has rushed a Public Safety Bill . through all stages empowering the* Government to arrest and detain persons for six months without any charge being preferred. At Dublin, tho Appeal Court has granted writs of ha liens corpus in the case of two of the internees who are in the custody of the Free State. Mr O’Higgins, a member of the .Ministry, speaking in the Dn.il Eiroami before the judgment was delivered, said that- if the Court allowed writs, it would mean the release of 10,000 or 12,090 persons now in military custody, atul it might he necessary for the executive to have legal authority bv to-morrow morning for the retention of the prisoners.
