Eight ships from various European ports docked within a few minutes. Thousands of immigrants were compelled to remain aboard the ships in the harbour for a fortnight awaiting the decision of the immigration authorities. Already the arrivals have exhausted the European quotas and thousands will he turned back after spending their savings.

The Department of Agriculture estimated the condition of the cotton crop forecasting a total production ol 11.r»]0,000 bales exceeding last year’s production by two million bales. The Department’s preliminary estimate puts United States 1923 wool clip at 228 million pounds.
