AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CARLE ASSOCIATION. GERMANY AND LEAGUE. LONDON, Aug. 1. Although Germany lias not formally applied for admission to the League ol Nations, it is understood that her Ambassador is inquiring with regald to Britain’s attitude on the subject. There is reason to believo that both Britain and Italy are inclined to support her admission at the next Assembly of the I/cague. If the application is made it will invest the Assembly’s session with considerable importance owing to the present European situation.

FURTIIER COR RESPON DENCIC USELESS. LONDON, Aug. 1. Cabinet, for three hours, deliberated the Franc-o-Belgian replies and will resume the discussion again to-night. It is believed that an influential and a substantial minority, if not the actual majority of Ministers, have already come to the conclusion that iurtlier correspondence with Franco is useless and that the British Note should be published. The more moderate view of the Cabinet however, inclines to formally notifying France of Cabinet’s attitude and leaving M. Poincare to reply or not ns he thinks fit. If Britain deided to send a separate reply to Germany some sort of way should he left tor I ranee to associate herself with the British policy if she desires. THE BRITISH REPLY. LONDON. August 2. It is expected that Ministers will have a. further conference to-day before Mr Baldwin makes his reply. The ‘"Daily Telegraph” editorially says: “We are convinced the wish ot the people, both hero and in the Dominions. is that Mr Baldwin should speak frankly and fearlessly.”

The “Daily Chronicle” says: France i.s being asked to agree to the publication of the iuter-Allied correspondence. If she refuses, Mr Baldwin will probably publish the British documents.”

Tin? “Daily Express” comments: “Britian must send some sort of reply to Germany, blit wo understand the replv drafted is useless, in view ol the French attitude.”
