The express from Oii.n was delayed for some time on Tuesday evening, says the Grey "Star'', owing to a mishap which “■"eurred at Stillwater. Air J. l.'rengh, storekeeper, of Brunner, stepped off the train just as it had started to move from the Stillwater platform with the result that lie fell between the tram and the platfoim. His misadventure was noticed by the stationmaster nnd the guard, who drew the attention of tho driver to the accident. The train was .checked almost immediately. and Mr Creaglt rescued from his ] light, luckily cscitj ing any serious injury.
In the London “Daily Telegraph” during last month appeared the Billowing interesting paragraph which indicates that the fame of the Exhibition to ho held here commencing next December, lias reached far and wide:— “The Arthur's Pass Tunnel in New Zealand, live miles in length, the longest in the Southern Hemisphere, is now complete, and to celebrate tlie occasion and commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the Province of Westland, a British and Inter-Colonial Exhibition is to he held at Hokitika, commencing December 15th. next. It is hoped by the promoters that overseas exhibitors will he well represented."
There was a, largo gathering at the .Hockey Club danco in the Soldiers’ Hal! last evening, including members of the Mawhera Hockey Club team. .Miss King supplied the music, with extras l>v Mr Reynolds. The floor was in charge of Mr E. Kearns. Pro novelty dances, including the "E.v.uso Me’ waltz, and the Balloon waltz, caused great amusement. During the evening Mr Wilson on behalf of the representative team thanked the Ladies Hockey Club for inviting them along, and Mr Evans acknowledged on hehalt of the Hockey Club. In place of the present intermittent service a uniform daily service has been arranged on the Reefton, Blackball and Hokitika lines. The timetable on the Boss line has also been made a daily one. Connections will Iks made from ami to Hoof ton, Blackball and Hokitika each day the overland service runs and from Ross on Tuesdays and Saturdays and to Ross on Thursdays and Saturdays.
