[by TELEORATH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] -MOTOR IST C < )X VICTED. AUCKLAND. August 1. At the Supreme Court, Sydney Murphy was found guilty of manslaughter of Mrs Elizabeth Sharpies on May 8. Accused, a taxi-driver, was motoring down Upper Queen Street at seven in the evening, when ho ran into deceased, who died in the hospital next -day. The evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that the car was travelling at from 25 to 30 miles an hour. No evidence was called for the defence. Counsel for the defence submuted the accused was not driving at an excessive speed, but was doing everything -an ordinary cautious motorist would do to avoid a collision. He submitted that the accident was due to an intensely bright light from a cabaret dazzling the driver. The Jury added a- recommendation to mercy. Sentence was deferred till Aloud y. At the inquest on Evelyn Florence I avion, the victim of a shooting accident, the lather stated that he was generally careful not to leave a live cartridge in lii.s gun, but must have iorgotten on this occasion as lie was hurrying to work. Alfred Taylor, 11,
stated that lie picked up a gun for fun. lie didn't aim at anyone, but pulled the trigger. His sister was moving and cmno in tin., line of lire. Medical evidence showed Fiat there was a large wound, at tin hack of the chest and the lungs were lacerated. Tit finding a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, the Uoroncr drew attention to the carelessness of leaving about loaded weapons. So far as the boy was concerned it was a pure misadventure.
