MEETING AT GBEYMOUTII

At a meeting held at Creyinouth last evening of the Tunnel Celebration Committee, Mr J. I). Lynch presiding, a long discussion took place. Mr Greenslade then moved that the committee get in touch with all likely bodies lo arrange a programme to cover the whole of the day, for tinpurpose id’ raising funds lor the Old People’s Home. Mr Parlitt moved that the local bodies be asked to contribute £2O for the entertainment of the children. Mr Fogarty thought an afternoon tea might be arranged after tlie departure of the train, lor the children. .Mr Hannan seconded, and the motion was carried. Mi- Gilbert moved that the secretary of (he Puller Progress League be written to stating that the conference did not intend to slight Wesport ' in any way. as the .Mayor of that town had remarked at the conference that there would not be many coining to the opening. The Chairman said that he objected to the remarks of the Westport people in stating that they were called to the conference at which no business was put before them. These remarks were unwarranted. A start had to be made some time! Mr Greenslade thought that the man who made those remarks was a man “with an unbridled tongue.” Tt was “a pity he had no other occupation than that of endeavouring to engender a spirit of animosity between the two towns.” Mr Keating said that the Bullor Progress League were invited to the conference practically at their own request. The Chairman said that Westport was labouring under a misapprehension . Mr Gilbert's motion was carried. Tin- meeting then closed.
