Mr Stanley has sued Mr George Barnett. formerly a member of the English Rugby Union committee, and of tho staff of the “Pall Mall Gazette,” for libel in relation to an article commenting on the Lawton football controversy regarding colonial players’ eligibility in Britain. The plaintiff complained tho article accused him of inducing a member of the Rugby Union to raise the question of Lawton’s status in order to get Lawton suspended. The action hns been settled, the defendants apologising and paying costs.
