S’est month wilt see a general speed-ing-up of British railways to cope with the holiday traffic. . NECKLACE .MYSTERY. LONDON, Juno 7
A clever and mysterious robbery of a pearl necklace of the vnhto of £20,000 was reported to New Scotland Yard detectives yesterday. The necklage is the property of .Mrs C'ory. a wealthy woman who occupies a. suite at the Carlton Hotel. On .Monday night Alts Cory arrived tn London from Paris and took a taxicab to the Carlton Hotel, where she had engaged a suite. She brought with tier jewels of very considerable value. On Tuesday nigot Airs C'ory was anxious to wear the necklace, but her maid could not find it in its usual place among the other jewels. Airs C’ory and the maid searched the whole of the luggage. Yesterday Mrs Cory tame to the conclusion that thieves had somehow gained possession of the necklace and sought the aid of Scotland Yard detectives. The police are puzzled by the mystery, as tbeio is no indication that the ease containing the gems has been tampered with, and the theory is that the rol>oer.v was committed either in Paris or on the journey from Pan’s to London.
