SEDDOX SHIELD MATCH. By this morning’s Rccflon express ihe West Coast rep. team which plays Nelson on Saturday for the Seddon Shield. lufL Greymouth, continuing tho journey from Eoeiton by Newman's Alotor-Service. The team will stay at the Commercial Hotel while at Nelson. Mr J. F. Wilson (President of tho West Coast Rugby Union) is manager of the team, and the party will number 2L. In addition other ears are travelling to Nelson with Coasters who intend to see the game. A car-load of Westland enthusiasts left this morning lor Nelson.
Yesterday it was found that Jack Russell, the seleted centre three-quar-ter, would he unable to make the trip owing to an attack of influenza. ‘'Racer” Nelson will probably take his plate at centre, while Ashley Warnes will Likely play as second live-eighth. “Tika” Reynolds therefore becomes first emergency back, and Dick Rowley second. WELLINGTON BEAT SOUTHLAND. WELLINGTON. July 25. Wellington met and defeated Southland on a heavy ground to-day in the pro -•cnee of 5000 spectators. The mulch, on the whole was not up to representative standard, although some bright Hashes of play helped to give incident to an otherwise uninteresting game. There was very little- between the two sets of forwards, but in tho hacks AYellington were vastly superior and the final scores •-■AYellington 30, Southland IS—indicated the relative merits of the teams. Tries for AYclliugtim were scored hv Swain (3), AI Xicimlls, Rogers, Thomas and Duncan (a try for obstruction), while AL Nieholls converted D'ree trios. Fur Southland. Clarke.
