MOTOR TRAINS.
SYDNEY. July 12. Experiments in the running of motor trains for local service- oil country Pines, which have been conducted over a period of years on the north coast of New South Wales, have been -o successful that they are being adopted for 1111 niei .ms ot her I ines. A new and ligin type of motor train based 011 the results of the experiments is being construeted at tin* railway workshops at Eveteigh. Each will accommodate about 5! passengers, and provision is being made lor the carriage also of mails, luggage, and perishable goods. Ihe Minister tor Works who had expressed such impatience I with tile apparent delay in completing | the new motors Hint he had signified I his intention ol instituting a- public enquire into tile matter, completely reversed his opinion alter inspecting the work at Eveleigh. He announced that the progress during the last lew months has boon highly satisfactory. and that live of the new ears with engines which were being imported, would he on tile tricks within three moutli-i. He expressed satisiaetam with the design and the pr .1provisiitn f«T eninlort that they contained. It is stated that the ear. which, while being lighter than those provmusic run. will contain motors of about double the horse-power, will give passengers a much mure speedy service than is possible with the present system of mixed luggage and passenger trains with which country branches are served. Besides this, they will, it is stated, greatly minimise the loss which most of these, services in the past have represented to the Department. Work is also proceeding on a larger ear. which will carry about 80 pas-engers.
