WESTLAND’S TRIBUTE.
“A FINE MEMORIAL.” Iu tlie Christchurch “Star” of a recent date. “A.G.D.” a late visitor to Hokitika, describes the Westland War Monument on Cass Square as a fine memorial. A detailed description of the memorial is given, followed by the following comment: — “The site has been well chosen, tor there on the green lawn in the silence of the park, and surrounded !>y the pines, which seem like sentinels to guard the sacred spot, this loving trihue of remembrance stands to honor thos'e bravo souls who heard tho far faint bugle call, and marched onward towards tho setting sun.
“For them the “Last Post” has been sounded, but their names shall live for evermore.” Tho writer adds that the memorial is admired greatly hv visitors to Hokitika. and the newspaper reproduces a photograph of the cenotaph: the reproduction being a. very good <">c. Tho article is made a distinctive feature of Iho front pngo. and the illustration stands out promptly to arrest the attention nf the reader.
Invitations have been issued by Lady Seal to a reception at the Salon of Madame Meniere, Fashion Furrier, Corner of Cashel and Colombo Streets, Christchurch, when a new shipment of fur coats and bridge wraps which have just arrived from the leading Court Furriers of London is on view.
