A deputation from the Hospital Boards Conference waited on Mr sey to-day, with a. request for an increase in the Oovernmem subsidy to hospitals, and to present other res 'lotions carried at the Conference. It “ n> pointed out that the Onvcrnmciu was only providing 42 per cent of the net maintenance requirements and I>oards desired at least oft per cent. If the request was granted, the Covernmoiu would have t i find about CGO.UO) mere from the Consolidated fund. Mr Massey said the dillieulty ot Hoards a])peared to have arisen out of the fact that the 1000 Act had become obsolete. He would consult Ins colleagues and if it was possible to get legislation through this session then ii would be done. Government would not shirk their responsibilities.
