The Chairman reported the result of the meeting the previous evening at Greyimuth in regard to the tunnel celebrations proposed for August -Ith. The report was received and approved. Air Jeffries moved that the Branch decide to join in with the eolehrn lions at (ireymouth on the Ith. prox. Air Duff, seconded.— Carr ted. Air Jeffries moved further that in view of the gre.t importance of the opening of the tunnel to AYesihind, it he decided to hold a celeb:a:ion gathering at Hokitika on or about the rising of Parliament towards the end of next mouth, and that the local bodies of tl.e Cot-l ho invited to co-operate on tire occasion in question, the Branch for its part to co-operate with other towns in regard to local celebrations ; lsc. Air Bruce seconded, and it was tar vied. Mention was made of a Childrens’ • btt the season was net considered favorable, it was suggested that a schools excursion for AA estlaitd children be organised about the end of October the School Commit tee to lie asked for suggestions with regard to the eairy- j ing out. of the event. 1 1 was resolved to ask Afr O'Brien ALP. to wait on the Minister of Railway;: with regard to cheap fares for the school children, ant to seek legislation fur the Iced bodies whereby funds for the tunnel celebrations may be expended legally. It was resolved to ask the Mayor to declare a public holiday on August -Ith., in order that the district might be aide to attend the Grey mouth celebrations in I'or.c. ."in! to a-k the publio to lly ; bunting freely on that occasion. The matters relating to the Hokitika celebrations will lie brought up specially at the next meeting of the Branch. CONDOLENCE. Air Bruce referred to the lamented death of Sir AA'tn. Fraser, who had boon a good friend to the Coast in regard to the prosecution of the- tunnel works under adverse circumstances. Tt was resolved to forward a telegram of sympathy to the Rt. Hon. the Prime Minister on the death of hi.s Hon. colleague. A vote of thinks to the Chair c.on--1 eluded tfie meeting.
