A new record has been created in the number of eases of infeetious and othei notifiable diseases this week in the Canterbury-West land Health District. The notifications have totalled 73. which is the highest number for years. Pneumonia and pneumonic influenza were responsible for the record. At noon to-day the Public Health Department issued its weekly bulletin as follows: —
Grey.— Diphtheria 3. North Canterbury.—Scarlet fever (>, diphtheria 8. tuberculosis 3. pneumonia 21, pneumonic influenza 2fi. enteric fever 1. puerperal septicaemia 1, erysipelas 1. Ashburton.—Pneumonia. 1. South Canterbury.—Scarlet fever 1. pneumonic influenza 1.
INFLUENZA IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, duly 17. Influenza in the city and suburbs continues to keep the doctors atuLchemisls well occupied, the services ol nurses being also in considerable demand. but >o far no schools have been closed. . . Four new pneumonic influenza eases occurred in the city and suburbs during the week-end and one case lias also been reported from the Waikato District. making 14 such eases in the Auckland Health District since the beginning of the month.
