McCruer’s (Westland) Ltd. have purchased for cash from the Insurance Cnderwriters the whole of the salvage stocks contained in the Mayfair Building (recently destroyed by lire) containing the wholesale stocks of the Auckland Import Company of drapery, ladies’ wearing apparel, stationery, fancy goods, furnishings etc., value £5609. The wholtsale stocks of Indian. Axminster, wool reversible and tapestry carpet squares, hall rugs, door slips, sofa, rugs, heart rugs, and carpet runners, formerly the property of the Carpet Import Co., of Christchurch, value £7OO. The whole of the Mayfair (McGruer’s T.td), including men’s and hoys’ wear, mercery, travelling requisites, ladies’ children’s and gent’s hoots and shoes value £4,800. Another of the earliest AA est- Coast pioneers passed away last evening at Greymoutli, Air Thomas F. East, who had been there since the early sixties. A native of Kent, England, he was 78 years of age. Air East was widely known and respected, being a prominent member of the Oddfellows’ Lodge, and many old friends will regret to learn of his death. He had lived on the Coast for the long term of 50 years, having arrived at tho first of the gold rushes. He leaves, besides two daughters and a son, no lower than 17 grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild. The daughters are Afesdantes \Y. Costello and Ferguson, of Greymouth. while the son, Air Arthur East, is tt resident of Afclbourno.
