INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC
DUNEDIN DOCTORS’ OPINION. [by TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. July ill. Private medical practitioners state that influenza is waning. Three fresh notifications were made to-day. OTAGO POSITION WORSE. DUNEDIN, July 10. Tho influenza position here has not improved. In fact, it may he said to be a little worse. The number of notifications for the 21 hours ended at noon to-dav was: Otago, 5: Southland, 8 Wallace. 2. There was one death on Monday. The Government departments are seriously hampered, though the municipal stall's have been more fortunate. The warehouses tire not as badly att'i cted as the factories, in which the absence of men who are connecting links is causing much disorganisation. All tho city primary 'schools are keeping open, but some in the country have closed. The reopening ol the Boys' High School has been postponed for another day.
THE EPIDEMIC AT TIM ARC. TIMARU, July 10. A mild form of influenza is very prevalent amongst the school children of Timnni, so much so that the Boys Digit School was closed at noon to(la\ . till .Monday next. There were 1!K) absentees, 21) being boarders. In the Girl-’ High School the absentees tu-day numbered about B) per cent., but it is not considered necessary to close the school. The Timaru Main (primary) School had 105 children off yesterday, but Die attendance was slightly better today. The other town schols have experienced the epidemic only in a much lesser degree.
