Bei! explained that the Bill did not propose to exclude any appointment of a judge temporarily. Every judge appointed during illness or absence of a judge would bold office during tbe idea sure of the Governor-Genera]. It also proposed that, two judges form a quorum for the Court of Appeal, instead of three. The Bill was read a second lime, and refer red to the Statute,-; Revision Committee, The Police Olf.-ncos Amendment Bill was read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statute-' Revision Committee. A fortnight’s leave of absence was granted Sir William Fraser on account of illness. The- Council rose at 3 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. next dy. THE HOUSE. j I The House met at 2.30 p.m. j The business of tlm afternoon session j was purely formal. \t the evening session, the following : Bills were introduced and read a first j time:—State Advances Amendment; Juries Act Amendment: Insurance Companies Deposits Amendment: Stamp and Other Duties Amendment; Death Duties Amendment; Harbours Amendment and Dairy Produce Export Control Bill. This Bill was read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Agriculture ('ummitloo to take evidence. Hon I-lanan moved the second reading of the Election of Ministers and Party Government- Reform Bill, which, alter debate, was defeated by 2-1 to 27. The House rose at 11.55 p.m.
