RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.
At a meeting of tiie Association and Ladies’ Committee at the County Chambers last night, Mr D. J. Evans | (President) presiding, arrangements I were concluded for the opening ol the tiuw hall next Tuesday week. ii was decided in inline the building the Soldiers' Social Hall. The opening function will he a fashionable hall, for n hii-ii admission will be, double ticket (is; gentleman -is : lady 2s (id. Mes-diimi.-s MeWhirter and Benjamin were appointed in charge of the supper arrangements. Mr Kerr (Secretary*) was requested to arrange for the music, and it was resolved to have men’s working bees tor the Moor and decorations. Tbe hall was let to ii.e Caledonian Ingloside for the lMh and the Druid’s Lodge for the annual ball on the 27>tli July. Charges for the hall were fixed as follows;—Short night, 25s : long night (including ail conveniences) 50s ; gas for cooking and heating extra per medium ol slut meter. On July l!Hh a monster euchre tournament and dance will be held at the usual popular charge. Mesdames Morgan and But land will be in charge. A. this function the present aggregate I'tize competition will be brought- to a «.lose, and the priz.es presented. The billowing Thursday a fresh aggregate competition will open for which Mrs Lynn lias kindly offered to donate the lady’s prize, value 22. On July 20th a children’s fairy dance will he held, Mesdames Jluntcr and Lynn to be organisers. It is intended to make this an event- of interest ing novelty. On the 21st July it is intended to hold the. usual sports dance. Willi regard to the Saturday night dances, it was resolved to grant the Kiwi Football Club the use of the hall oil three nights out of four, the remaining night in he a benefit- for the building fund. Saturday Sale Day at the depot- will he mi the l ltli iust, when a men’s committee consisting of Messrs Delbridge, Moore, Patterson, Slinnd. Lynch and Kerr will he in charge. The lull owing fortnight, .Till v 28tli, Alissos Ayson and Rooney ot Woodstock, have kindly iill'ered lo take charge. The Ladies’ Hockey Club forwarded 220 -Is to the building fund, proceeds of dance on May 23rd.—Received with thanks, and resolved to grant the ( Ini) the free use of the Social Hall for the annual hockey hall. The Chairman appreciated the kindness qt Mr and Mrs Stow in granting the Club free quarters for the weekly euc-lire louriiamoiits. References were made ul.-o to the good progress being m-'-l" villi the building operations at 1 1;;- social hall hv Mi Emmett and pariy. The total building fund now approximated 2500.
