The Greymouth Trotting Club last night, decided to increase the stakes for its October meeting to £1955. The programme drafted is similar to that of last spring meeting, but the club is confident that cn this occasion there will be increased patronage from both owners and public.
Captain Charles McPherson tendered his resignation at last night's meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board. 1 lie matter was referred to tile Finance Committee. Captain McPherson has been in the board's employ for -15 years. The ouelire and dance held at St. Alary’s Club Rooms on Monday evening was again well attended. Ihe prize winners were Mrs 11. Fitzgerald Mrs A. Sumner, and Mrs Al. Hnnrahan and the gents winner-, Messrs 11. Kei toga si. W. Goodfellow and Jus. Duncan. The lucky table prizes were presented to .Miss Riehford, Ales-r.s Conning, Roberts and AY. Goodfellow. Ihe dance which was kept going until midnight was well attended.
At the County Council meeting yesterday a semi-private letter to the County Clerk was partly read, ill which an officer made a refereme tn the representatives of the riding. To this Air Jeffries took exception, but the Cinirniai! stated the letter should be held over anil after the Councillor slated that he entered, a protest at an officer of the Council making such a reference which he considered a great impertinence, and that he. would know how to act in tho future. The matter then dropped.
At a meeting of the Committee d the West Coast Rugby Union held last evening it, was decided that West ( cast nominees for the Eolith Island team be wired t.o N.X. Union the .Monday niter the conclusion 01 the return match with Duller on 21-t. July. It was resolved to ask Hokitika Sub-Division to play a return match with Grey on Saturday 21st.
