The debate on the Addross-in-Ropl} was continued by Mr Howard, who moved an amendment to Mr V. ilioids amendment, to the etfecl that the House should not adjourn until legislation was passed providing for employment, or adequate maintenance for all able bodied workers, together with a secession of State aided immigration. until such provision is made. Mr Wilford indicated he would oppose the amendment ber-ause it was not so comprehensive tEdw’ial amendment. At 19.J0 a.m. a division was taken, when tin* amendment was defeated by 50 to 17. . Mr Leo, at the conclusion ot his 5,f....,*b moved the following further amendment —‘Finally we are of opinion that the New Zealand delegate should be definitely instructed by Rarliameiit on all matters ot front rank importance, such as Empire policy in connection with the League ol Nations, Treaty ol Versailles, problem of the reparations, the Near I'-nst, political and economic relationship with Russia, and that it should be laid down as a guiding principle that nothing done- at the conference shall he secret from the people ol the Eominion, and also that the New /calami delegate shall not he empowered to commit New- Zealand to any polu-y not in line with his instructions, or on the other hand not subject to ratification by the people." This was lost by oil to 10. At 3.30 a.in. a division wa~ taken on Mr Milford's amendment which was defeated by 35 to 39.
