RETURNED SOLDIERS’ SOCIAL CLUB.
TO BE OPENED JULY 17th
It has been decided to open the Returned .Soldiers’ Social Club Room in Sewell Street on Tuesday, July 1 1 . At a meeting of the committee on Saturday night the following functions were drafted for submission to n general meeting to be held at 7.30 o clock on Wednesday night for final adoption, and arrangement of the complete details :
Tuesday, July 17.—Grand opening night with a fashionable ball. Wednesday, July 18,- Building booked for Inglesidc.
Thursday, July 19,—Euchre tournament and dance. Friday, July JO. -Children's Fairy Dame. Saturday, July 21. Spoils’ Night Dance. The main hall now nearing eonipleti*m is 7.” x 82. and in addition there is an annexe oil x 12 available for (lancing or part supper room, together with tT kitchenette '2O x 12, which is to be fitted up with gas copper and gas heaters for urns, as well as provision for cutting up and washing up etc. The floor of the dancing has Keen laid specially, and is to he further prepared, v hicii should make it the most popular rendezvous in tuc district for dance parties. Tending the erection of :'e suite of six club rooms in the Hunt of the social hall, temporary admission to the latter will he arranged Horn the rear, where also, a temporary ladies’ 100 m will he set apart. The building is 10 hr. lit by electric light, and though lined throughout, will be heated also hv gas radiators, thus ci suring the comfort of patrons.
The opening ball 011 the l.ih. in-t 1- intended to he oil a large scale. Ihe interior of the building' will be specially decorated, and liist-elnss music provided. The U.S.A. supporters in tee country are likely to attend in torce, nml it is intended to make a preference admission by ticket to avoid overcrowding. Tickets will be on sale next SiitUrduv night at the depot in Ucvell Stiver, and orders for tickets from the country should bo sent to Mr 1- Herr, Sere nary without delay. The ladies committee will control the supper arrangements. and the gathering should prove the most popular social event of the season.
(In the lolloping night the building will be occupied by the Caledonian Society with the monthly Inglesidc. hut on Thursday. July 19, a euchre tournament followed by a dunce, "ill he carried out on a large scale. At this gathering the final games for aggregate prizes now on exhibition at Paterson and Lloyd's. Ilevell Street, will ie placed, and presented to the winners. Tim following Thursday a fresh aggregate euchre competition will begin, and will be continued weekly every Thursday at the social hall, which will be made very comfortable by gas hoat-
On the Friday night there is to be a very distinctive night for the kiddies when a childrens' fairy dance will he hel'i. A committee of ladies will take this function in hand. It '"'ill prove one of tlm host of the kind yet held here, and will he a pleasing spectacle alike to the children and adults. The opening week will close on S-turday night with a sports’ dame to wind up the doings of the outdoor ] layers du--1 jn.. 1 li,- afte; neon. It will thus he seen that, the inaug'.ual features proposed will te-t the 111 i lily purposes of the fine hull which is being provided for the town, and no doubt the various function, will !v largely pat ionised over the four evenings set apart to benefit tlm building fund.
