June 28 In the House of Representatives Mr Charlton moved the adjournment to discuss tiie deportation of the Irish envoys. stating that it was not too late now to give them a trial by jury. .Mr Groom replied tluit the Commonwealth took action independently of New South Wales as soon as it obtained the necessary evidence as to the envoys spreading disaffection. It was impossible to submit a ease of every person challenged under the Tmmigr.ation Act to a trial by jury. The motion was defeated by .9-1 to 29. The debati* on the supply followed and continued overnight. Mr Brimr intormed .Mr Marks that Urn British Government was not making any direct subsidy towards the repairing of Nelson’s Victory, l>ut vi's leaving it. to the public. He thought the Commonwealth should follow that example too.
