HOKITIKA BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
TUESDAY. JUNE 26th.
The Association held its monthly meeting at- the Town Clerk's office at 7.30 o'clock. Present Air 1). -1. Evans (A’lce-Chairman) Alesdames Bennett. I’ilkington and Aficliel; Afessrs Trvine. Boyd, I’ilkington, Preston and Niven (lion, see.) Apology was made for the absence of Hon H. [.. Alichel, (Chairman). Alesdames Butler, AlcAA'hirter ami Stuart. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed.
Air Niven reported in respect to work being done on Cass Square and asked for a decision in reference to future work.—Received.
Air Niven presented a balance sheet of the bazaar held on the sth. and 6th. inst.. disclosing a surplus of £155. ’1 he Chairman expressed gratification at the financial result and tributed the work put into the benefit by several lady helpers. He hoped that the result would he a reward for their grod work. All had striven to make the occasion a special success, and with the very economical management which had been I n act iced there was a handsome result. The return showed the practical support of the public to the movement, and the Society should lie encouraged to carrv on its useful work lor the benefit of the town. He moved a very cordial vote of thanks he recorded to all helpers and workers at the bazaar, and to those who had contributed through other means to so gratifying and acceptable a result. Mr Preston seconded the motion, which was readily adopted. Hi regard to future work on t ass Square, it was suggested a eoiilerenee he called of those interested for 4 p.m. on Ith. Julv on the ground to discuss the matter of works. It was resolved t > invite the Reserves Committee or the Borough Council, and representatives of the Rugby Sub-ITiion and ( vchng Club to discuss matters in mind, and ai-roe on a definite plan of action for the future. The meeting approved of a general clearing no work on ami about the Square to he carried on ... the mean-time. Mrs Bennett referring to the neee - sitv of something being clone with the ocean head, to prepare it as a rendezvous for holiday makers. Mr 1 rest on mentioned the encroachment on the beach area by several unsightly fence, erected bv the residents. A anous methods of dealing with the matter were suggested, and a- it was stated the Borough Council was procuring •» report from the State Forest Service in regard to a plantation proposal, it was resolved to ask the Council to define a limit for the extension of the hack fences, with a view to the plantation being put iu on a uniform line, and when the Forestry report is made pulllie. to consider further what nn K ht he done in an effort to beautify what should 1)0 a very popular resort. Tho meeting rose at 8.10 p.m.
