The following letter to the Hokitika Borough Council indicates the proposed building scheme of the above Company, and iLs desire to assist in adding to the attractions of the town:—Doubtless you are already aware that the Westland Cool Stores and Dairy Company Limited has recently taken over the vacant section opposite the south-western corner of Cass Square, and situated within your Borough. It is the Company’s intention to attiactively lay out its grounds surrounding the Factory, and therefore, wo respectfully ask you to assist in brightening the locality hy putting the road and pathway under your control, in a better condition, than lias formerly been necessary.

Wc* desire to concrete the curb and channelling, and are prepared to do the work at our own expense if you will ho good enough to efficiently pipe the drains, gravel the road, and form the pathway. Wo respectfully ask you to pipe the drain next to Cass Square, between at least the outlet at the Gas Works and the river. We would mention wo have already bridged the large open drain, and put 111 lies at our own expense, and trust- same will elicit your approval “to' help those who have, helped themselves.” Our purpose in asking for the above work to lie put in hand is entirely prompted hy the knowledge that my' works will be immediately one of Hokitika’s host assets, and . therefore, worthy of vour support- and assistance towards modernising its surroundings. We trust to have your respected cooperation in this matter, and considering the Exhibition is to he held shortly with the influx of visitors, we wish to assure you no stone will lie left unturned to make our property one of the most interesting sights of the town.
