The Allies held a conference with the Turks lasting throe hours on the question of concessions without the slightest satisfaction, the Turks persisting that, .instructions from Angora prevented their acceptance of any reference to future negotiations between the concessionaires and the Turkish Government. Sir H. Rumbold said the British Government had received telegrams from five of the biggest English companies holding concessions under a contract, stating that they could not reach any agreement with the Turks and asking the British Government to tako their interests in hand. The ■ companies were tho National Bank of Turkey, Armstrong and Vickers, tho Eastern Telegraph, Smyrna Gas and Borax Alines. The Allies attempted to obtain an assurance that as soon as the treaty was siemed the negotiations would be carried out on a basis protecting European interests in Turkey but they met with a flat refusal.
