The death occurred yesterday at the f;icy River Hospital of -Mrs Minnie Firth, an old resident of (Jreyiiiouth at the ago of 5 1 years. She was a native oi Nelson, and had been ill for some time. Mr Harry Hart, of lilaUetown, is a brother of deceased.
At the meeting of the Committee ol the Reefton Jockey Club on Wednes dav evening, Mr W. A. Stapleton in the chair, a deputation was received from the Inangahua Trotting Club, asking that they he allowed to hold their annual rttee meeting on the centre day ot the three days at Midsummer. The request was deferred to a lull meeting; of Committee, as were several other matters.

At a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society recently, SeniorSergeant Mathew applied for. and was granted, the society s reward ol £-9 for securing each of the first two convictions for shooting game out of season (reports an exchange)- Ihe chairman. Mr C. A. Whitney, said he thought they should write to the Magistrate and point out that the convictions cost the society £4O, whereas he imposed a fine of only £l. A member mid the chairman he could not write to the Magistrate in this way and the matter dropped.
The windfall of the Borough Council notified by the Commissioner of ( rown Lands for royalty on timber cut off Crown lands at South Hokitika was received gladly at last night’s meeting and will he utilised in making neecssarv repairs to the roads in South Hokitika. Mr Perry in referring to the matter last evening stated that many requests had lieen made in the past for repairs tu the road hut the money was not available, and he had personally not considered it right that the Council should repair the roads utilised by the millers, even though he was personally interested, when the County Council was getting all the revenue in royalties payable, and had no road to keep up in that locality. Now it appeared they were to get- royalty for the timber cut in a portion of the borougn that was Crown Lands and it would be verv welcome.

The Hokitika Tennis Club proposes holding a dance in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 3ul. July in aid of the funds of their club. As the West Const Annual Championship meeting is to be hold in Hokitika in January next, the Club intends making substantial improvements to the courts and pavilion. Extra funds will be required for this purpose and it is the intention of the Club to bold a- series cf dances during the winter months trom which it is hoped to raise the necessary amount. The music- for the dance will he supplied by the Royal Orchestra.

The Winter Show on Wednesday at Kokatnhi Public flail will give a splendid insight of the possibilities of the district. The produce classes have filled splendidly and there will he good competition throughout, ensuring a deeided interest. The quality of the display promises to be of a high class air 1 there will he much of general interest to visitors. The brave display will 'veil reward a visit and Wednesday afternoon promises to attract a large gathering. Special arrangements are being made for the conveyance of exhibits front Hokitika.
