MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

THURSDAY, JUNE 21st. (Before Win Meldrum, Esq., S.M.) AFTERNOON SITTING. The Court adjourned at 1.15 ji.in. and resumed at 2.15 p.in. The police charged two residents with being on licensed premises (Southland Hotel) after hours. One was lined 20s and costs 7s and the other ordered to pay costs 7s. The police charged a. resident for whom Mr Eloock appeared, with being oil licensed premises (Dunedin Hotel) after hours ami lie pleaded not guilty. After hearing Sergt King and defendant. his Worship said the defendant's excuse that lie was calling on a lodger fiiend uas n sufficient one. The ca-e would he dismissed. The police charged four residents with being on licensed premises. (AH Nations Hotel, Riniu). Mr Murdoch appeared for the defendant', and pleaded not guilty for three and guilty for the foilrlli. who was ordered to pay tost' 7s. In the oilier eases evidence was given by Const. Drummond, the licensee and a defendant. The magistrate said the conditions were suspicious but tlm excuse would las accepted and the case dismissed. The evidence of the other two defendants was taken that they were boarders for the night, which was accepted and the eases dismissed. T he police charged two residents with fifing on Itemised premises ( Keller’s Hotel) after hours. Mr Eloock appeared for one and pleaded guilty.
