The Council placed on record its appreciation of the public, service- rendered to the country by the late Sir Wm. Hcrries, Hon. A. ]’. Seymour and Hon. C. 11. Alills. A warm tribute was paid by Sir Francis Bell to the memory of Sir Wm. ]lorries, who had always played his part in reference to the rights of the natives. Hon. E. Newman gavo notice that he would open the Addre’e-in-Rcply debate to-morrow. Leave of absence for the remainder of tho session was granted Hon. I)r. Collins on, account of urgent public business.

THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time—Election of Alin-l-teis and Party Government Record (Hon. Hanan); Agricultural Bank Bill (Air AVillord!; Workers Compensation for Accident Bill (Air Howard); Land an 1 Income Tax Amendment Bill (Mr Wilford); Unemployed Workers Bill (Mr Eraser); Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill (Air Wilford); Housing Amendment Bill (Mr Fraser). Mr Massey explained the provisions of file proposed amendment to the State Advances Bill, which he had intended to introduce, hut for the Leader of the Opposition's no-confid-ence motion, and the House rose at 3..'53 p.m.

At the evening sitting the Address-in-Reply was moved by Air J. C’. ltolrestou (Waitomo) and was seconded by Air AlacAlillan (Tauranga), both ol whom spoke briefly. The debate was adjourned on the motion of Afr Wilford, and the House rose at 8. IO p.m. till 2.30 p.m. to-mor-row .
