The Appointnionts Committee reported that the Department had submitted a copy of a proposed new form of application. the chief alteration being that after sending in one application during any year it would be necessary for the teacher to send a memorandum or telepram indicating the other vacancies he wished to apply tor. A letter was received from the Department pointing out that in computing the average attendanee for any year the hoard might exclude the low average for one c|iiarter, which provision it was considered should meat the difficulty caused by the poor attendance during the abnormal weather experienced dining the week ended. I’rudhoc, ehairman of the (,'ashinere llills householders' meeting. with reference to the hoard's amended bylaw No ill) regarding moral and religious instruction. Ii was resolved:— “That this board is in sympathy towards the. imparting of religious iuslrueiou in schools, and has endeavoureel to meet the wishes of parents as far as possible in the matter, and turther that it is of opinion that the present time is not- opportune to take further action." The Kainpoi School CommilLee wrote expressing the' opinion that the Act should he. amended so as to permit ol religious instruction in schools. It was. agreed to inform the committee of the board's amended by-law No 3l> under which ordinary school hours may he shortened to four and a-hali. A! ISC Kll i. A N KOl'S.
