KUMARA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Council met on Thursday last. Present: Messrs ,\. B. Spiers (Chair). Burrell, Martyn, Berry. McDonald. Ford, Mcl'iU'lano and Murphy. Mrs Boh mu u unite complaining of drain in front cl' her residence overflowing and Heeding her property.— Ilesolved that the day la hour man attend to the matter. iJr. J. Spencer Daniell wrote applying for some gravel in front of his residence.— Unsolved that the day labour man attend to same. The Westland Chamber of Commerce wrote slating that a meeting would take plate in the Town Hall. Hokitika, on or about .lime 22. to discuss the adpisahility ;uf quickening action in regard to the introduction of electrical power for industrial purposes in the district, and asking for representatives of the Council to be present. Mr Spiers thought it would bo a good thing to full in with the suggestion. Mr Berry concurred and moved that Missis Spiers. Burrell. McFarlunc ami Ford attend the c'uiler.'.nee. -Mr .McDonald sc: o:i:!ed.—Carried. Mr Murphy wrote applying for renewal of slaughtering license. (I ranted . Mr Burrell said that something would have to h? done le the culvert in front of the Fire Biigr.de Station. He moved that alternate tenders be . ailed o r i he w- rk in wood, al-o for laying ;aM inn pipes.- Me Murphy ■ eooudod. ■ C." rie-1. tic Bun i’ll moved that the Public Works Committee meet at an early date to discuss the requirements in l j| ; , j ,■ i.| gravel etc., to-repair the road'. - Mr Murphy seconded. Carried. Mr Murphy wanted to know whether the t onui ii intended to take any 111:iher action re preventing the removal if the Old Peoples' Home from Kcmara. Mr Spiers said me Board had
made up'its mind to remove the Home, and lie did not know that any further agitation would do any good. Mr Burrell said t’-:e IS-’ : ’ would not do e the Home if the Kom ra people were prepared to run it. Ultimately it was decided that the Kumttra representative on the Board get details ot the cost of running the institution for the past three years. The Town Clerk was instructed to purchase office requirements for the Memorial Hall. Mr Spiers gave notice cf motion for next meeting to make a by-law in respect to itiui'iant trade’s. It was resolved that during the winter months the Council meet at 7.30 in plate of S o'clock. A number of accounts were ] assed for payment.
