WATAROA SPORTS.
(From a Correspondent). The Wataron Sports Committee held their sports on -Monday, June lllh, and were favoured with a splendid day which added greatly to the success of the meeting. Competition was keen throughout and competitors travelled from Bruce Bay and Hokitika districts. Not less than I*s motor ears carried the onlookers and it was easily the largest gathering ol the kind vet seen in Wataron district. p. Kit-wan of Hokitika, in winning, the Sheffield, gave a fine performance, as also did Mr Hlaekmun in the J tin log. while Mr P. Milcy was tho stteeuesxful winner of the big chop. In the evening the Secretary presented Mr V. Kirwan with a Silver Cup as winner of the Sheffield on behalf of Mr Richardson the donor, and Mr Blackman with a gold medal presented by Mr M. Hoyle for the winner of the Min underhand chop. Master Andrew Nolan was also presented with a goltl medal on hchall ol Mr J. D:-n----nent of Greymouth. for the winner of the IGO yards boys under Id years. A grand ball was held in the Wntaroa Flail in the evening and was the most successful gathering for some time. Mesdames Gunn, llyndman and .1. Stankov supplied the music and Mr J. J. O'Neil had charge of the floor and kept the dancers merrily engaged. Mr.s \V. Vincent was greatly appreciated in catering afternoon tea and “upper at night for such a large gathering. The results ol the -pugs were sfollows : fluty ds Handicap.—!’. Kirwan Ist. J. Glass 2nd.
