The question put to the members of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ L'nion at a ballot to-day was: “Are you in favour of a settlement with Gould, McGee, Tilley, and Ivavanagh oil the bas;is outlined in the secretary’s report given to members at the stopwork meeting on Juno sth.?” The ballot affected the question of arriving at a settlement as to the union’s liability, following on the judgment of the Supreme Court for £2OB and costs for each of the plaintiffs. The voting resulted : Yes 530 No 008 Mjajority 102 The Union will now meet the judgment oil the terms agreed to by the parties. Some 350 members out ol about 1300 did not vote. If the ballot bad gone against a settlement, the union would have gone out of existence for a while, and a Receiver would have taken charge of its affairs. QUARRY ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN. June 8.
